PrEP is taken by people who are HIV-negative but are at a higher risk of becoming infected.

 For individuals who are prescribed PrEP or HIV medications, adherence is a primary challenge. A 2024 study identified that almost half of people at risk for HIV were not taking PrEP, while about half of current PrEP users were not completely adherent.
